Andrew Bowing

Born and raised in Indagen Village in the Sarawaged mountain range of Papua New Guinea, Andrew Bowing is an indigenous artist and singer. A gifted musician, Andrew plays many traditional instruments such as Kundu drums, the bamboo flute and the bamboo mouth organ.

In this tropical environment where the majority of the inhabitants live largely traditional village lifestyles in agricultural societies – Andrew spends much of his time designing and creating bilum bags with locally sourced materials. Drawing, playing guitar and the keyboards are amongst his many other skills.

With a unique voice and a distinct perspective of the world around him, Andrew’s goal is to use his talent to create a better life for himself. He also wants to assist others in his village to promote their art so they too can gain financial independence and support themselves.

Inspired by his family, his culture and his land, he hopes to educate and showcase to people around the world Papua New Guinean art and music.
